There are many people who will joke about having a bad memory. They may forget their keys when going out to their car or forget someone’s phone number. Memory Loss

Everyone has memory loss at some point or another. However, usually, it is just temporary or a one-time thing. However, if the senior you are caring for has memory loss which is disrupting their everyday life, this can be a problem. It can signify the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. They might forget important dates, names of their friends or family members, or information they just heard. They may forget information they have known for a long time, as well.

Plans and Problem-Solving

Another one of the warning signs for Alzheimer’s disease is when the senior is having difficulty making and sticking to plans. They may also have difficult solving problems, too. Maybe they can’t plan a meal and stick to that meal. They might not be able to problem-solve when they don’t have enough money for the monthly bills. It could just be they made an error in the checkbook, but they may not realize this as even an option.

Tough Time Completing Tasks

Is the senior you are caring for having a tough time completing tasks they were familiar with? Maybe they can’t manage their budget. They might not be able to play a game they have known how to play for many years.

Place and Time Confusion

Someone who has the onset of Alzheimer’s disease will often have confusion when it comes to place and time. They may forget what day or even what year it is. They might not understand how they got someplace because they lost track of time.

Decreased Judgment

Someone who has onset of Alzheimer’s disease may have issues with their judgment. They might not make good judgment when it comes to handling their money. They may give money out to scam artists who call their home. They might not pay attention to their personal hygiene.

Changes in Personality

If you notice the senior you are caring for has a major change in their personality, this could signify the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.
